7/8 TWS

During Term Two we were able to create cam toys during our time in Toy Workshop. We started by researching what a cam toy is and deciding on a design that represented ourselves in some way. After this we designed our toy, copied this onto some wood and began to create our toy. We were given some time to practise our cutting skills and other skills needed to be successful.

The majority of our time was spent creating our toy. We began by making a box for our toy to sit on, this was made using an “L joint” which is where you cut off small sections of the end of two of your bits of wood and glue them to the other pieces. The second phase of our build was to create the cam mechanism that would make our toy move in the end. This involved making a round cam on the disk sanders and figuring out exactly where it needed to sit in our box.

Finally we took our toy that was created earlier and added it to the top of our box along with the other half of the mechanism.
