PB4L School-Wide looks at behaviour and learning from a whole-of-school as well as an individual child perspective. The framework is based on international evidence.
The Positive Behaviour for Learning School-Wide framework, otherwise known as PB4L School-Wide, helps New Zealand schools build a culture where positive behaviour and learning is a way of life and the framework is tailored to our school’s environment and cultural needs.
It’s not about changing the students; it’s about changing the environment, systems and practices we have in place to support students to make positive behaviour choices.
PB4L School-Wide is based on the Positive Behavioural Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework developed at the University of Oregon in the 1990s. PBIS is now in thousands of schools across the US and there are over 800 School-Wide schools in New Zealand.
A component of PB4L is Restorative Practice. PB4L Restorative Practice is a relational approach to school life grounded in beliefs about equality, dignity, mana and the potential of all people.
The Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) Restorative Practice model focuses on building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships across the school community and offers school staff best-practice tools and techniques to restore relationships when things go wrong. By building and maintaining positive, respectful relationships within a school, staff to staff, staff to student and student to student, issues are more easily managed.
PB4L Restorative Practice is based on a set of best practice tools and techniques to support a consistent and sustainable approach to managing positive, respectful relationships within the school. Our RISE values live and breathe throughout our curriculum and learning environment. Evolved through community discussion and consideration, they are at the core of everything we do as a school.
